I have a first-generation Retina iPad. It runs 9.1 just fine, so no ipso facto reason for you to look at upgraded hardware.

I did see some problems after installing it, notably, repeated crashes of a few apps (Safari, especially).

I did a forced reboot and it had no problems after that.

Also, I took a look at the iPad Pro yesterday. It didn't seem overly large to me, about the size of a magazine like Fortune. And about the same weight.

While I'm not planning to buy one, I could see some reason for artists, photographers, and others to get one. $1000 for a professional tool is not out of line (e.g., camera prices, artist supplies...).
