That would actually be illegal and this is something that used to be done in the markets with great regularity.

However, the SEC, as toothless as it is, certainly does look out for this type of behavior as its one of the easiest to catch.

My wife will hate me for the toothless comment as she works in the enforcement division and we've had a number of arguments lol, to the point we no longer discuss issues around her work.

That being said, this strategy you outlined is too obvious not to be caught any longer in the market place, whether its by a proxy fund or not.
