Another delay in trading looks like it will happen.

So how are the new shares going to be accounted for at the brokerage? I ask this because there is no ticker symbol assigned for the shares as far as I know.

Here is the problem that is going to happen. Usually brokerages use the ticker symbol and then they will put the CUSIP in parentheses in that same column or put the CUSIP in another column. But normally the ticker symbol is the ID of the stock which then references the CUSIP. Which then allows the stock to be properly referenced in the system.

I know that Fidelity does not use a separate column for the CUSIP so the ticker symbol would seem to be required to have the stock put correctly into your account in order for it to be available to start trading. By correctly I mean the trading symbol must be first in the first cell and then the CUSIP follows in parentheses.,

Fidelity (I guess) could just use the CUSIP for a holder in the first cell until a ticker symbol is assigned but that will hold up trading and it will require every account to be updated with the ticker symbol when it does become available. I am assuming every brokerage can use just the CUSIP to get the shares into the accounts but I don't that for sure and maybe that it what is holding many brokerages from actually putting the shares into our individual accounts.

All I see here is another delay in trading even if the stock does show up in our accounts because there is no ticker symbol assigned and every individual brokerage will have to update account records once the ticker has been issued. Which will take (I am sure) a few weeks for all the brokerages to actually get done.

So how will they know to update the accounts once the symbol is issued? Is somebody going to inform the person/department at each of the brokerages that the new ticker is available? They are not going to magically know that is for sure.

Anybody addressed this problem yet or even thought of it?
