Zap's new E-3D CUV is the latest in a line of odd little EVs
Zap is back along with its partner Jonway Auto to show off another quirky EV for the Chinese market. The new three-door crossover is called the E-3D, and at least the name is better than some of the companies' previous products. We're thinking of the Urbee and the Smart-like Sparkee.

Three-door crossovers are somewhat of a rarity in the US these days, but Zap says that the E-3D is meant specifically for China's dense cities. It uses a lithium-ion battery to offer an over-125-mile range and a top speed of 87 miles per hour. In profile, the thick B-pillar and shape of the glass somewhat bring to mind the three-door Toyota RAV4.

The first shipments of the E-3D won't begin in China until the end of the year because Jonway claims to have 11,000 backorders for its EV minivans. The company also asserts that the CUV passes European crash tests, and it's considering selling them there in the future, too. ZAP even wants to put them on the market in the US. Although, we have to say that we think that prospect could take quite a while, if it happens at all.
