It likely gives pretty good insight into what might happen if you overdosed on a HIF-stabilizer for your entire life.

Untreated they have Hgb numbers in the high 20's, and not surprisingly, a high incidence of strokes and vascular issues in midlife. But no apparent excess of cancers or other weird diseases.

Interestingly, there are some high-mountain populations (I think in Tibet) with the opposite condition - they have the HIF-system genetically turned down. So that probably implies you don't want the system activated the whole time even if you live at very high altitude.
