Why? The three biggest resistances for existing customers to switching from ARM to x86 is software legacy, ARM's business model vs Intel's, and development program inertia with current suppliers. XPoint changes none of these.

Zenfone 2 is the #1 best seller on Amazon, so I don't think these issues especially software legacy are pertinent. I suspect phones like Zenfone 2E (prepaid on AT&T for $119) will accelerate x86 penetration in the US market.

Further, Google should be accelerating its efforts to move over to x86 to get over its well-documented issues of fragmentation.

ARM's business model can be a disadvantage with not many SoC vendors being able to integrate/embed memory into their SoCs. With embedded XPoint, Intel can capture more of the BOM and leverage it towards more competitive pricing.

I don't think there is too much to hold back Android customers from switching to x86 phones as long as OEMs keep coming out with a good range of phones with good price/performance.
