If Intel is trying to suck the oxygen away from other top IDMs and fill up mothballed fabs it could try to integrate a baseline quantity of fast DRAM into the MPU package for PC applications using a customized Intel DRAM design. For low and mid range PCs this is probably all the memory needed and high end MPUs could still allow memory expansion via IMC and external DDR3 DIMMs.

[That is what they seem to be moving towards for Purley.]
