Peregrine has launched a Phase III lung cancer clinical trial for our lead drug therapy Bavituximab which has been given a fast-track designation by the FDA.



The Senior Research Scientist, Protein Characterization is responsible for developing, implementing and optimizing analytical methods used in characterization of the company’s recombinant glycoprotein products. This role also conducts research to characterize biologicals under development. Relevant pharmaceutical industry experience is absolutely required to be considered.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Will help the Sr. Director of Process Sciences organize and implement the protein characterization program for both Peregrine and Avid’s clients.
Utilizes a diverse array of technologies for the characterization of glycoproteins in formulations being developed at Peregrine and Avid.
Continuously updates knowledge with respect to the latest technological breakthroughs.
Serves as a resource to both Peregrine and Avid regarding glycoprotein analytical methods and interpretation of analytical data.
Stays current in the fields of molecular and cellular biology particularly pertaining to cancer biology, angiogenesis, nuclear structure and gene expression.
Supports managing research collaborations with third parties at other research sites.
Discusses assay development and other scientific issues with Avid clients.
Presents project results at conferences and meetings or through the publication of manuscripts in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skill.
Supervises/manages/directs the selection, training, development, appraisal and work assignments of personnel as they have been assigned including staff members who are Senior Research Associates and Research Associates.

QUALIFICATIONS



The ideal candidate will have at least a Master’s degree in biochemistry/analytical chemistry or a related discipline. A PhD is preferred. Must have a minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in glycoprotein protein characterization. Extensive mass spectrometry and HPLC experience is required. In addition, knowledge and experience working with protein enzymes, complex molecules and antibodies is essential. Work with macromolecules is preferred over small molecule experience. Experience working in a regulatory environment is highly desirable.

SUMMARY



The Scientific Writer (Process) is responsible for helping the scientific staff in the Process Sciences Department prepare and issue reports and other related documents based on the studies being conducted by the staff. Please note that relevant pharmaceutical industry experience is required to be considered for this position.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists members and personnel associated with the Process Sciences Department in the preparation of technical data summaries, reports, upstream and downstream process development studies, posters and presentations for dissemination
Supports Process Sciences Department in preparing upstream and downstream process validation protocols, reports, and associated documents through editing, reviewing, and writing
Capable of reviewing data and preparing draft reports, presentations and posters
Prepares and maintains minutes during scientific meetings
May assist in the management of some internal Process Science projects
Interacts with scientists within the company through collaborative research
Manages multiple projects simultaneously

QUALIFICATIONS



B.S. degree in a scientific discipline is required, i.e. Biochemistry, Biology or Molecular Cell Biology. A Master’s degree or PhD is highly desirable. Relevant experience in monoclonal antibody research or biopharmaceuticals is required. Must have scientific knowledge or experience in areas such as cell line development, cell culture, purification, manufacturing processes, and regulatory guidelines. Will need excellent scientific and technical writing abilities and advanced computer skills. Should be able to present writing samples from publications, preferably as first author.
