NYBob: Good article. Here in Maryland, I have opted out of the smart meter, and they are going to bill us a one-time fee of $75 and $11 per month thereafter. This is criminal. We already have a meter that is read electronically by an Exelon employee who rides by the house at 25 mph. They have really dragged their feet with regard to implementing the opt-out penalty, and imo, it is because they know it is probably illegal to do so.
