This former Seahawk should be FIRED before he even starts his job along with his assistant coaches.
The Superintendent along with any others should also be canned.
I hope Jon Kitna not only gets fired but can't get a job after people read about this. These types of deals you think of when you think of CEO's of tech companies and politicians not HIGH SCHOOL coaching positions!

Questions surround Jon Kitna's coaching gig in Texas

WAXAHACHIE — A group of Waxahachie parents says the process that led to hiring former NFL quarterback Jon Kitna as head coach of the high school football team was unprofessional and unfair.

KING 5's news partner News 8 uncovered internal district e-mails that, critics say, prove the superintendent is putting athletics ahead of academics.

Kitna was a backup quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks. He made a big splash in North Texas in January after being named head coach of the Waxahachie Indians. He moved to Texas from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington, along with four of his assistant coaches and their families.

Kitna graduated from Lincoln HS in 1991.

Dozens of coaches had applied for the opening, and interviews were scheduled for January 14-16. Records show at the time, Kitna had not even applied for the head coaching job.

Yet based on e-mails between Kitna and Waxahachie Independent School District Superintendent Jeremy Glenn, a decision to hire Kitna appeared to have already been made.

On January 16 — while head coaching candidates were still being interviewed — Kitna responded in an e-mail to Dr. Glenn:

"Jeremy... we are hammering out specific details... [with his assistant coaches] ... I have instructed these guys to ... make their individual family designs for the move ... including non-negotiables and desires."
Kitna also informed the superintendent that he, too, had a list of "non-negotiables," including the equipment being used.

"We will start with varsity switching over to Nike this year for sure, and the lower levels would follow soon thereafter, if not immediately."
High school parent Shannon Moyers, who has been critical of Waxahachie ISD administration over threatening to close her son's high school, has seen the e-mails, and feels that Glenn was blinded by the Kitna's star power.

"There were head coaches coming in from all over the state that were trying to get this head coach position," Moyers said. "But it seems that it had already been given to Jon Kitna, and there were positions created for his family and friends."

On January 20, Kitna submitted an official application for the head coaching job. The position was supposed to start in the fall, according to his application. On January 22, the school board voted unanimously to hire Kitna right away.

The job posting was for a coach who was also a certified Texas teacher. Kitna was not certified in Texas, nor had he ever taught school, according to his application.

The maximum salary was advertised as nearly $70,000 a year, without stipends. Kitna's contract pays him $95,000 a year, without stipends.

E-mails indicate his four assistant coaches were promised jobs by Superintendent Glenn even before they were posted. The coaches were also required to be certified Texas teachers.

According to their applications, three of the four coaches have never taught school, and one — a long-time corrections officer — has never coached football at all.

The maximum annual salary paid to Waxahachie ISD teachers with no experience is $44,500. Kitna's assistant coaches are being paid around $70,000.

In another e-mail, Glenn directs one coach to have his wife apply for "the athletic student service position." She was awarded the $45,000 position.

Another coach's wife was told to apply for "the football coach secretary job." Kitna's father was given a newly-created job: Equipment manager-stadium supervisor. He is paid $36,000 a year.

"It's a slap in the face of every other coach, every other teacher and secretary and janitor in this school district," said Mark Martin, a parent and an outspoken critic of Superintendent Glenn. "And these men — through no fault of their own, through their negotiating power of Jon Kitna — have negotiated salaries that double, triple the amount of most of the employees of WISD, and it doesn't seem right to me."

Glenn declined to do an on-camera interview, but issued this statement in defense of the Kitna hires:

"Waxahachie ISD followed Board Policy and Standard Operating Procedures with the hiring of Jon Kitna and his staff. We are proud to have added a nationally recognized group of coaches to work with our students and serve in our community."
Glenn declined to answer any other specific questions about salary, experience and the creation of jobs for family members.

The non-negotiable demand made by Kitna before he was hired regarding the purchase of Nike football equipment is not an issue, according to Glenn. Even though it the gear was purchased in March for more than $40,000, it was equipment the superintendent said had already been budgeted.
