Kansas City-based Agrisoft Development Group, a software development company that specializes in medical compliance issues, has partnered with C4EverSystems LLC to launch a cash payment kiosk system for the marijuana industry.
Agrisoft produced software that guarantees transparency, accurate accounting and compliance for marijuana dispensaries and cultivation sites, and paired it with the cash payment kiosk system offered by C4EverSystems. The combination creates a system that solves several problems for the legalized marijuana industry.
Although President Obama announced in February that he would allow the banking industry to finance and do business with marijuana sellers in states where it is legal, most banks still refuse because marijuana remains on the federal list of Schedule I controlled substances. That leaves the pot industry dealing with large amounts of cash, leading to concerns about diversion, theft and human error.
The kiosk system takes cash out of human hands. It handles all sales, accepting the cash and locking it into a kiosk that is as strong as an ATM machine. The system records each transaction, ensuring that the money is tracked, the accounting is accurate and the proper taxes are collected.
"From a management standpoint, the system is invaluable," Agrisoft CEO Charles Ramsey said in a release. "Managers can see at any moment how much revenue has been collected in real time. This is especially important in the event of unannounced state inspections and audits."
Cash4EverSystems kiosks already have processed more than $160 million in transactions and are used by many state and local governments for everything from paying traffic tickets to utility bills. Now the company is moving into the cannabis industry.
Recreational use of marijuana in legal in Washington and Colorado, and medical use is allowed in 18 other states, not including Kansas or Missouri.
