If Purdue really thought that, they would have made the same mistake as others. It is this absence of critical thought and decision making that has led to the "deaths" of many companies. Would you like an example?

If you look at the companies listed on Fortune's Top 25 in the year 2000, you will find that less than half still exist as separate business entities. What happened to the rest was a result of parochial thought: "not invented here"; "we are smarter"; "if it were so easy, we would have figured it out already". The end result is they failed and were either acquired or went out of business because they thought they knew better and clearly did not.
