The patent, if it is any good, cannot be commercialized. Aluminum costs $1.80 a kilo and the best case is $2 bucks a kilo for the hydrogen generated by the process. Way more expensive than market price of hydrogen. The bugaboo of high pressure hydrogen storage tanks which was alleged to be the raison de etre of the patent when the patent was filed in 2010 was even then no longer an issue and is definitely not an issue now. Automakers such as Nissan and Toyota have poured tens of millions of dollars into solving that problem.
The same "safety" issue is out there with respect to CNG vehicles. It is nonexistent. In fact the safety issue has never been seen as the problem, but rather the energy per gallon compared to diesel or gasoline. Again, the Japanese automakers have that problem solved.
In other words, the patent is only fit for hype and promotional value.
