Interesting move. I like it.

They can get Altera to stay on Intel's fabs instead of potentially switching to TSMC. They can do more collaborative work on FPGA/Xeon integration to defend their server business. This is becoming more important as large datacenters like MSFT/Bing and BIDU are already deploying FPGA solutions. MSFT in particular is already using Altera products.
