More than 50% of Publishers say Monetization is Difficult!

A study from Adaptive Media showed that 40.9% of publishers reveal that monetization is more difficult than they have expected; while 26% of them say it is just as difficult as they thought! That leaves the whole publisher industry at a disadvantage when more than half of them find the job of ad monetization a challenging task to beat.



Some of the findings include:

1) Publishers view the following monetization strategies as important:

- Ad network selection and prioritization
- Affiliate-oriented content creation; and
- Customizable players
- However, it has been found that 1 in every 4 publishers see direct sales as the least important, followed by sponsorship opportunities.

2) Too many new offerings and options make it even more difficult to publishers

The ad industry continues to roll in advancement while publishers struggle to keep up in trying new ad options and offerings. This kind of environment has left most of them feeling there is not enough time and experimentation done to test and adopt the most revenue-generating strategy.

In the past three months, publishers have tried their hands on various monetization methods like behavioral targeting, recommended content, brand sponsorships, content-targeted ads, mobile ads, affiliate and video.
