I'm pretty sure they had a contract with the mine, but when you haven't been paid by the Company for months at a time even that can be a problem, regardless of a contract. I believe that was indeed the case with them.

I agree that the ONLY way this thing will ever be turned around is what you're implying to happen. The new group coming in and making things right and to continue to treat the workers fairly.

I'm also pretty sure there's not a lot of jobs around the mine area available for people looking to work, so just having the opportunity to make a paycheck for them is appealing. AS LONG AS THEY KNOW THEY'll BE PAID FOR THEIR WORK!
