This morning's meeting of the Morning Marmot Lodge in beautiful and (sometimes) tropical downtown Saint Thomas convened at the appointed hour of 9:00 AM. The stated purpose of the meeting was to finalize plans for our Groundhog Day celebration. Among the missing was our own Saint Thomas Tom. He is firmly ensconced in his burrow, hibernating the winter away, as is the wont of most intelligent groundhogs at this time of year. Tom will be getting up to check on the advent of spring sometime after the snow melts. Those other charletans, such as Punxatawny Phil, Octarara Orphie, and Poor Richard are being abused by the members of their respective lodges, in Tom's humble opinion.
We who are members of the Morning Marmot Lodge will repair to the local Elks Lodge in Chambersburg for our celebration and a few adult beverages on February 2. We may also celebrate the results of the Super Bowl if the team for which we are cheering manages to win. This is the way intelligent lodges celebrate groundhog day. Tom will be with us sometime, perhaps in April, when spring finally makes the turn around that corner, wherever that corner may be.
