11:18 EST - Buckingham estimates retail light-vehicle sales are up 8.6% in January after the first 13 selling days and predicts the month ending 8.1% higher than a year ago. While the outlook has modestly brightened the past week (leading to expectations of a 16.4M seasonally adjusted annualized sales rate versus 15.2M last January), this month's pace would be lower than December. The investment bank says pickup sales are up 14% so far this month, likely suggesting GM and Fiat (FCAU)are performing well in the segment. It adds Ford (F) month-to-date sales are outpacing the industry, and "may be increasing incentives" to boost deman.
