Homeless Vet And Wife Get Help From Community% - -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu-ltkWEjs4

Some folks in our community are coming together to help a war veteran
and his wife who have been homeless for years.
The two have been living in the Tillman's Square Shopping Center
for several months. But thankfully a kind stranger, who wished to remain
anonymous, put them up in a hotel room for the night.
She's working on getting them an entire week's stay.
But it's only a temporary solution for veteran Sam Frazzella and
his wife Sandra.
As temperatures drop in the 20's, Sam and Sandra are hoping
they won't have to spend many more nights in the cold.
"It's been so freezing but people have helped us out with blankets,"
said Sandra Simms.
"She has seizures and a bad heart. I don't like seeing her out here,"
said Frazzella.
The couple has been homeless since they lost their home during
Hurricane Katrina. Both on disability,
Sandra is in a wheelchair and Sam is a veteran.
He said he served four years in the Marine Corps, but hasn't
received help from the VA because of lost paperwork.
"They kept sending me papers to fill out but every time I fill them out and
send to them it takes three or four months to send another piece
of paper," said Frazzella.
According to folks that work in the Tillman's Square Shopping Center,
what makes the couple "different" is they never ask for money.
They never ask for anything.
"We stay to ourselves because that's not polite,"
said Simms.
Kimberly Carpenter is a manager at Sally Beauty Supply.
Hoping to get long-term help for the couple, she posted a picture of
them to Facebook on Sunday.
"I didn't think it would explode like it did. But I'm glad it did.
I hope they can get the help they deserve.
If he's a veteran he deserves it. He's paid his dues and it's time
for everyone to step up and help them," said Carpenter.
Now the couple is staying at a nearby hotel for the night thanks to
a stranger's generosity. Fellow veteran John Lamb hopes one day,
the couple is able to find a more permanent solution.
"It really needs to bring to light that there's so many veterans out there
that do have to live on the street now because they don't get the help
they need from the VA," said Lamb.
Most, if not all the homeless shelters in Mobile, split up the men and
the women. Frazzella said he's been with his wife for 38 years and
he's not leaving her side. -
