Mickey, it is deeper than those in the know want to admit. IDCC was the go to company for the transfer of data in wireless communications. Nokia engaged IDCC to develop the W-TDD technology that resulted from their creation of B-CDMA. Nokia was the top dog in wireless and of all the R&D shops in world, they picked IDCC. The whole enchilada was conceived in the labs at IDCC. Data is routinely transferred wirelessly today because IDCC laid the predicate in the 1990's. Nokia used us and then set out to destroy us with packs of lies, throw down prior art and scorched earth litigation designed to break IDCC financially. This is why I am confused over the addition to the BOD of IDCC with a guy who was in on the 1999-2001 games and still is a consultant to Nokia today. The only logical reason is a buyout. Nokia plans to resume terminal production in 2016. Mr. Softy does not mind a merger because they are licensed for all of Nokia IP which would more than likely include any additional patents by innovation or acquisition. Following the bouncing ball, the other new board member is from the industry also and has been involved in mergers and acquisitions previously. To Nokia's credit, they were the first to mention the internet of things several years ago. Nokia also knows that the foundation of this goal is the massive transfer of data from multiple sources to the terminals of the end users. IDCC's R&D group has been developing technology that will allow this to happen. They are also developing technology to cure the problems they have encountered along the way such as traffic jams, optimum use of bandwidth, controlled power consumption necessary for terminal use just to name a few. Nokia has managed to grab infrastructure via former partners like my old favorite Siemens. They know they need terminal vision and help in the future. I think the rumors of the big fish is Nokia. If my reading of the tea leaves is correct, I hope it is for cash. I somehow cannot see myself as a shareholder of Nokia after all of the nonsense they have put us through. If I am wrong, I will remain confused regarding the latest addition to the IDCC BOD. Of course, all of the above is just my opinion fwiw.
