Could have been 3200 people buying them, that's not what the original post stated. Someone bought, was it 8 thousand options?
They were betting the movie would do blow out numbers and the stock price would jump and they could make a nice profit.
So therefore, it didn't work out for them.
BTW, you asked about covered calls, which is a neutral position to collect a short term gain on a stock you don't expect to move up much. More of a protection against downside loss by selling against your position.
