Many people tried to have wind turbines near the Massachusetts border in New York. One residential landowner actually put one up and failed to get utility approval to interconnect for 15 years. In order to have any turbine to have useful power output, there would have to be substantial flat and cleared land, or at least three times the height of the tree line. Some people may have seen turbines just above the treeline like two that I have seen on the border of New York and Massachusetts which is not proper. Studies have shown that the turbines have to be much higher near trees and other obstacles to get the desired output. Across the border in Hancock Massachusetts, a relatively small project took nearly ten years to develop. New York Governor Mario Cuomo, the father of today's Governor Cuomo dedicated the Tacoma Reservation land in the mostly wooded area near the Massachusetts border. Many wind companies do not want to spend the time in areas that are difficult to develop. Maybe, Mass Megawatts knew that it would difficult to zone and not have the proper terrain for sufficient power output. Some companies say that they are too busy instead of getting into a debate with developers who believe that their projects are viable.
