We were discussing commission costs as a % of profit on a trade, and I was pointing out that looking at those as a % of profit is a hangup in my opinion. Is it not better to look at what kind of net return you get on invested capital. Commission is just part of the cost of doing business.
Certainly, how one's overall results (growth) over time compare to inflation is important (as Clive has mentioned many times). And it is informative to compare your results to the major indexes as well. But in fact, it is the of $ is that pays the bills. I haven't found anyone who will accept %'s as legal tender.
