The software machine IPC on SPECint2006 is roughly the same that
the Itanium 2 processor achieved more than 5 years ago. It is also
not in agreement with the clock rate/performance in the second
image (hand picked weird best case?)

The KEY take away from that slide is they are comparing themselves
to other processors on the basis of IPC, not performance. That alone
is a strong suggestion of excessive brainiac complexity and/or poor
computational power efficiency that limits clock rate in silicon.

This reminds me of early Transmeta hype - great claims that shrank
to clear inferiority when hardware reached third party evaluation.
