A partial answer to the question of what resources NWBio has in Leipzig can be found in the Franhofer 2012 Annual Report on page 22 -"The new extension to the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI in Leipzig was inaugurated in January 2013. It complements the existing research infrastructure of Fraunhofer IZI, adding a further 1200 m2 of experimental- medicine labs fitted out with the latest imaging technologies and equipment for developing and testing cell therapeutics. The federal government and the Land of Saxony provided over €4 million toward the construction costs, while a further €7 million came from ERDF funds."
The Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI in Leipzig has a Department of Cell Engineering and appears to be the entity actually doing the work for NWBio/Cognate. According to their 2013 Annual Report (insert-text-here) starting on page 21 there are references to 16 clean rooms - "The Cell Engineering / GMP unit operates Fraunhofer IZI’s two modern GMP clean room facilities consisting of eight separate clean room suites (altogether 16 clean room grade B manufacturing rooms) which are optimal for manufacturing Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). The 60 highly qualified staff members specialize in the GMP-compliant manufacturing and quality control of investigational medicinal products."
My educated guess is they have access to 1200 square meters of lab space divided into 16 clean rooms designed for ATMP products like DCVAX with 60 employees to process the vaccines. I have yet to find any reference to how much of that space might be reserved or accessible for DCVAX and what their production rate could be. If anyone else can find that nugget of info it would prove helpful.
