Maybe it's been a long time since you've used Windows, but secondary drives don't work all that well for many things. Windows updates will take up 10s of gigabytes on the install partition, and most common DLL files will want to be there, too. You can install most applications on a second drive, but they will run terribly slow off of USB, let alone an SD interface, and if it's removable, you'll notice the pain of missing files referenced by the registry, if that drive is not present when you boot. I've done multi drive partitions most of my life with computers, and nothing beats having at least 150, if not 250 GB of OS partition.
