According to a local newspaper, the money for their project will involve neither a federal government grant or loan, but is to be funded by the state of Maine.
Also, the company was asking for $25 million, but that was cut by a board vote from $25 million down to $16 million, $9 million less than what the company wanted.
In addition, the article states that Thermogen is only looking to make bio-coal, not bio-coal and bio-char.
Finally, Thermogen's project is a start-up endeavor that's currently in the planning stage, so where they'll get the rest of the money they need to build and manufacture is anyone guess at this point.
