Every now and then I’m asked, “Are you one of those narrow-minded Baptists that think you’re the only ones going to heaven?” I love that question because I get to respond, “I’m actually more narrow-minded than that. I think there’s a lot of Baptists that aren’t going to get there!”
You can be a Baptist, a Methodist, a Catholic, a Presbyterian, or a pedestrian and still not know Jesus Christ. You can do all the right things: Practice your religion and go to church. But just calling yourself a Christian is not what makes you saved.
Do you know Jesus Christ? Is He real in your hearts? Or, does your confession of faith amount to “I’m a Jew!”, “I’m a Baptist!”, or “I’m a Christian!” It’s the difference between profession and possession of Jesus Christ.
Let me be very honest with you: You’re not good enough, not talented enough, not religious enough, and not pure enough to stand before a holy God on judgment day. Your most righteous acts are filthy rags in His sight.... (Isaiah 64:6).
The only way you’ll ever inherit eternal life is to clothe yourself in the righteousness of Christ.
Don’t trust yourself. Trust Him.
