IDC Predicts PC Shipment Decline to Moderate in 2014

http://www.zacks.com/stock/news/145516/idc-predicts-pc-shipment-decline-to-moderate-in-2014

Highlights

PC shipments (303.5 million) to decline 3.7% in 2014
PC shipments in emerging markets (162.7 million) expected to be down 10.5% in 2014
IDC has also stated that PC market cannibalization by tablets is weakening. The reduction of PC prices by vendors is turning out to be an offsetting factor.
IDC expects PC shipment declines to moderate further to just 2.3% in 2015 backed by the extension of PC replacement cycles and the scheduled launch of Windows 9.

I wonder how much of the XP upgrade cycle is just a demand pull forward with an air pocket occuring once the XP machines have all upgraded?

Emerging markets used to be the primary growth driver for PCs. Now it's looking like death, down 10%+ this year.

The "reduction of PC prices" is another data point that suggests weaker pricing power.

It would be interesting to see revenue share data instead of unit share.
