Assuming that the Bats are the primary source in the 'wild' (and evidence strongly supports this point) and they carry Ebola (and/or other Ebola-like viruses) then YES - Ebola is around to stay - at least in bat populations.

The limited amount that I have read regarding these bats indicates that the bats themselves are not severely impacted by carrying these viruses, so while Ebola can 'burn out' in Human populations because it causes fairly rapid mortality and thus limits its own spread among humans - this is not a big factor in Bat / Ebola epidemiology.

It's probably more like a 'common cold' for bats - an annoyance that gets passed around.

So cycles of recurrent Ebola (or other Ebola-like viruses) breaking out in human populations is something that 'we' will have to deal with in the long term. Individual outbreaks can be managed and treated in humans - and probably will have to be unless some sort of widespread treatment or vaccine becomes economically possible.

Problem is - without Governments or NGOs to serve as a market for Ebola treatments or vaccines - who's the customer base for a medicine that only occasionally breaks out and that doesn't generate a stable reason for companies (not just NNVC) to make a medicine stockpile?
