I don't know much about how this ASTM standard fits or doesn't fit in with what Sigma is doing. That's one reason I would like to get my hands on that Wohler's Associates 2014 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing State of the Industry report, on the off chance that it is discussed. The price is a bit out of my range, though ($495 or about 4,125 shares of SGLB).

As most here know, Sigma is well positioned with NIST:

After doing some more searching, JJ comes through again (this also mentions Wohler's Associates, which is why we need to find someone with access to the 2014 Industry Report):

Additive manufacturing is being developed at a global pace. The White House has created an initiative called We Can’t Wait and the Administration has established the National Network of Manufacturing Initiative (NNMI). The National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute (NAMII), a departmental subset of the initiative, was established to support research in AM. NAMII recently awarded a $5 million grant to a group that Sigma Labs is a part in research for AM. NAMII is now known as America Makes. America Makes is composed of members who are conglomerates in the AM industry such as GE, Boeing, NASA, Wohlers Asso., 3D Systems Corp., Statasys Inc., and research laboratories and universities across the nation. America Makes aims to bring AM to the forefront and help define the standards on which products are produced. Europe has established Support Action for Standardization in Additive Manufacturing (SASAM). South Africa has launched a similar program under the direction of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). America Makes recently established an agreement with ASTM International to assist with globalizing standards. This undertaking is in the care of ASTM F42 Committee, and along with the International Standard Organization (ISO), the council have reached a publication of standards. This publication is awaiting confirmation and the world is anxiously watching.
