Why has a photo of this prototype never been made public?

The Aerius website in the "History" part of the "About Us" section says that the company took delivery on one of the two prototypes after a group investors stepped in to pay for the cost of delivery.

Since you have spoken with Brian Sims, perhaps you could obtain a photo from him and post it here to prove this prototype really exists.

Wu RangLin's claim on his LinkedIn page to have worked for Aerius for over 4 years on the prototype is inconsistent with what Aerius claims regarding the dates of design and manufacture of the prototype(s). He shows Aerius as his employer, which is doubtful. How did you come across his name?

In 2010 Aerius International Inc contracted with a designer and manufacturer in Shenzhen China (where numerous well known brand phones including HTC are made) to produce Aerius equipped phones under the Aerius brand. The decision to manufacture a proprietary smart phone was made because the company can earn gross profits that average $90 to $100 USD per unit. This compares to licensing Aerius technology for $0.50 to $1.50 USD per unit sold.

In 2011 the manufacturer completed the design of the smart phone and Aerius ordered two prototypes for testing. Unfortunately Aerius ran out of funds and could not accept delivery of the prototypes. However a group of shareholders invested enough capital for the delivery of one of the prototypes.
