To be perfectly honest, many fell into the exact same trap as I did myself once. You see a stock that seems to having some stellar gains, you see a website or two that look as you expect them to look, you read so-called press releases, false posts by paid pumpers and before you know it you have EMOTIONALLY invested into this. Even though every single thing a newbie might see can be easily produce by just one person with humble computer skills, the illusion is created of a young company struggling to get going and having modest successes along the way. You become a flag-waver for the company. You stick by them through thick (nice gains) and losses (losses).
I think the SEC has at times been overwhelmed by the numbers of crooked companies or companies that started out decent, but became corrupted along the way. They can only do so much.
My own strategy has changed quite alot over the years, but each new day brings a fresh batch of excited newbies to exploit...and so it goes.
