Seems to be a growing number of these firms (Gotham City Research, Muddy Waters, Citron Research, Glaucus Research, Gravity Research, Activist Shorts Research, or various Hedgies/VCs; Valiant Capital, Pershing Square, etc,..., books written; “Financial Statement Fraud” “Creative Accounting, Fraud and International Accounting Scandals”, etc, ...). If the SEC ever banned shorting it could put a lot of people out of work, lol ; and where would that sober second thought watch dog be for the unsuspecting investor?.
Best to stick with the reporting, boy scout type plays like EWSI and do one’s DD I suppose, good luck.
