To be fair, I doubt Irving personally bought the shares. He probably has people working for him who look for opportunities and as we don't really know for sure what he paid for his stock then the amount gambled could be less than what poor Mrs Jones or Asher Enterprises loaned WRIT. At the very least, they might make an interesting tax write-off for him next year.
