Here is a old pr from GWTR archives. This contract plus the contract and subsequent expansion contract addition at The Philadelphia Chidrens Hospital may be part of what sparked the Governments interest in having GWTR involved in its water efficiency program for US airports.
In the news today is the mention of strong concern by health authorities for the sudden appearance of the MERS Virus which is almmost always fatal if contracted. Much like the former SARS Virus fear is it is possibly going to be spread by travellers landing or passing through North American airports. Maybe those private investors that GWTR is partnering with have something llike this in mind

September 20, 2000 - GWT Signs Agreement to Provide Hospital with Cooling Water Treatment Technology and Services
GWT today announced its wholly owned subsidiary, Applied Water Technologies, Inc. (AWT) has signed a long-term agreement to provide its proprietary environmentally sound cooling water treatment technology and services to the University of Maryland Medical Center located in Baltimore, Maryland.

The University of Maryland Medical Center is a large academic health center that combines medical education, biomedical research, patient care, and community service. It is a major part of the University of Maryland Medical System, a regional, multi-hospital system of 1,900 beds and 9,000 employees. It operates in conjunction with the University of Maryland Medical School, the 5th oldest medical school in the United States. Under the 5-year agreement, the AWT program will service an 8,100 GPM cooling water system that will be expanding to approximately 12,000 GPM next year. AWT’s AquaPhysicsä treatment system components have been designed to allow for this expansion.

Commenting on the agreement, George Kast, President and CEO stated, “We are pleased to help support the university in their efforts to reduce hazardous chemical use, conserve water and energy, and enhance patient and employee safety within their facilities. Since our program addresses each of these issues while also providing expert operations and maintenance services, we anticipate growing interest from the entire hospital industry that includes over 13,000 hospitals nationwide. This is further confirmation of our business strategy and the investment we have been making in our two new business opportunities which we believe will have a significant impact on future revenues and profitability. ”

“During the last 10 years, the technology that AWT utilizes for microbiological control in cooling water circuits has emerged as a leading method for controlling bacteria and the biofilm that harbors them in hospital water systems,” explains Timothy Kast, VP Engineering, AWT. “Backed by scientific research by independent experts, medical facilities have selected the technology employed by AWT in over 500 potable water systems to control bacteria, including Legionella pneumophila, which is responsible for Legionnaire’s disease. With AWT’s Cooling Water Management Program, hospitals, hotels and other property managers can now achieve this same level of control on their cooling water systems.”
