1940's Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer, Doug Clifford, is born. 1945

Jethro Tull’s original bassist, Glen Cornick, has a birthday. He’s from Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. 1947
1950's The Cure’s Boris Williams (Boris Peter Bransby-Williams) is born in Versailles, France. The drummer is with the group from ’84 – ’94. 1957
1960's Del Shannon issues his signature song, “Runaway.” The high pitched keyboard sound is produced by a musitron. 1961

It’s a birthday for Billy Gould, bassist for Faith No More. He begins his life in L.A. 1963

Hole drummer Patty Schemel is born. Much later, she replaces Caroline Rue, who leaves after the recording of the group's debut album (“Pretty On The Inside”). 1967

Drummer and founding member of the Spin Doctors, Aaron Comess, has a birthday. 1968
1970's Tricia Nixon, President Richard Nixon’s daughter, invites Jefferson Airplane’s Grace Slick to the White House. Slick chooses revolutionary “Chicago Seven defendant” Abbie Hoffman as her escort. Hoffman doesn’t get past the Secret Service and Slick leaves, missing the social connection of a lifetime. 1970

Grand Funk Railroad’s cover of Little Eva’s early ‘60s pop hit “Locomotion” nails #1. It is one of the few times a song tops the charts by two different performers. 1974

Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” makes it into the U.S. Top 10 (#9). 1976

Following in Johnny Cash’s footsteps, Santana and others perform a California’s Soledad Prison. 1977

Farm Aid VI draws 40,000 with performances by John Mellencamp, Neil Young and good ol’ Willie Nelson. 1993

2000's System Of A Down headline the SOULS, 2004 concert in Los Angeles. The event benefits the Armenian National Committee of America -- which seeks to raise awareness about Armenian genocide. System Of A Down also raises money for Amnesty International by auctioning off three pairs of tickets to their show. 2004

Always the innovator. David Bowie invites fans to create a mash up - namely taking a track from his “Reality” album and mixing it with a classic Bowie song. The record industry views this as a form of bootlegging but Bowie’s web site offers prizes for creativity. 2004

System Of A Down singer Serj Tankian and drummer John Dolmayan launch a three-day rally in Washington, D.C. to urge politicians to pass legislation recognizing the Armenian genocide of the early 1900s. The campaign kicks off with a demonstration outside of the Turkish Embassy. More than 1,000 people attend. 2006

David Bowie and Robert De Niro are photographed smiling together in New York at the opening party for the renowned actor's Tribeca Film Featival. There had been speculation that De Niro was fuming over Bowie's supposedly competing High Line Festival which is a couple weeks later. "I told him that story was bulls**t," says De Niro. "The more festivals the better." 2007

"One Man Revolution," the first album by the Nightwatchman, (Audioslave/Rage Against The Machine) guitarist Tom Morello's solo acoustic persona, is released. The 13-track disc is produced by Brendan O'Brien, a veteran of both RATM and Audioslave projects. 2007

Arctic Moneys unfurl “Favourite Worst Nightmare,” the sophomore studio album by the Sheffield band. Also, there’s Patti Smith’s covers CD, “Twelve,” with her versions of songs originally recorded by Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, the Doors, Rolling Stones, Tears For Fears and Nirvana. 2007

"The String Quartet Tribute To Chris Cornell" is issued. The album features orchestral versions of songs written or co-written by the singer during his tenure with Soundgarden and Audioslave, as well as from his solo career. But that's not all! "Americano: The Bluegrass Tribute To The Offspring" rolls out. It's an 11-tracks of Bluegrass Punk. Yep. 2007

Def Leppard’s "Nine Lives" (from their ’08 album "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge") is released as part of a downloadable "track pack" for the Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock video game. 2008

Filter hits the road for the first time in nearly six years to promote "Anthems For The Damned." The six-week tour starts in Austin. Richard Patrick’s rehab stint cut the ’02 tour short. 2008

"Pork & Beans," the first single from Weezer's self-titled sixth album, is available for digital download. 2008

The video for Green Day’s "Know Your Enemy," the first single from “21st Century Breakdown,” premieres on MTV, VH1 and all other worldwide MTV Networks platforms. The video was filmed in L.A. 2009

Aerosmith settles a class-action lawsuit brought against them after they pulled out of a sold-out concert on Maui, Hawaii, in September ‘07. As part of the deal, the group gives a free performance on Maui in ‘09. "Everyone who bought a ticket to the original concert will receive a free ticket, and all out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed," explains a lawyer for the plaintiffs. The suit claimed that the cancellation cost ticket buyers up to $3 million in various expenses. 2009

Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Elton John are ranked third, sixth and eighth, respectively, on The Sunday Times of London's list of wealthiest U.K. music celebrities. Sting and Keith Richards also appear in the tally's Top 10. 2009

Electric Light Orchestra frontman Jeff Lynne is presented with ASCAP's Golden Note Award on during the performing-rights organization's "I Create Music" Expo in L.A.

2009 The Rascals reunite for only the second time since breaking up four decades earlier. The group performs at Robert De Niro's Tribeca Grill in New York to raise money for the Kristen Ann Carr Fund. 2010

American Idiot, the Green Day musical inspired by the album of the same name, ends its Broadway run at the St. James Theatre after 13-months (421 performances). Following the final curtain, Green Day performs a ten-song set at the theater. "Ladies and gentlemen this isn't a f**king party, this is a f**king celebration!," frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tells the crowd. "I never thought I'd see my bedroom on a Broadway stage." Ticket sales dropped after Armstrong left the cast but he rejoined the musical, playing St. Jimmy, for the final performances. 2011

Jack White’s debut solo album, "Blunderbuss,” is out. "I've put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name," says the former White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather frontman. 2012

The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Tour begins in Tucson, AZ. 2012
