Actually worms and eggs are the same thing in thins case. The statement made was

That would be for every 100 eggs they gained 30 cocoons.

The thing I think you were thinking is that from 100 cocoons we get 30 good ones and that is not the case. If the worm can get to the point of spinning they will make a viable cocoon.

It is just that many of them die in the process. I would love to see the survival rate per instar of growth but that is not information they should release.

IMO Survival rate going up to 70% is due to nothing more than being raised in the right place by people who know how to raise silkworms.

Scientists are very smart but put them outside their area of expertise and you get a person who can read a book and do exactly what the book says, but cant make intuitive guesses because it isnt their field of expertise.
