David Akins - Designer

David Akins has been in the swimming pool industry for over 20 years, doing everything from digging ditches and laying stone, to sales and design. As the son of Lew Akins, one of the industry’s most accomplished builders, David grew up learning the trade. As he watched his father interact with homeowners and listen to their needs, he developed a deep understanding of the importance of professional integrity and personalized service that went on to serve him as he related to his own clients years later.

Today, as an experienced pool professional, David has drawn on the skills he learned from his father to create a strong reputation as one of the industries most promising designers. He’s been honored with numerous APSP design awards and was recently recognized by Pool & Spa News as ‘one of the top ten up-and-coming gunite pool builders in the nation.’ David has also designed several internationally awarded pools, including one pool that went on to receive a record breaking number of awards and industry recognition.

David’s background in construction coupled with his education in architecture has helped him stay on top of industry trends and ground breaking technology. By thinking outside the box and always pursuing innovative ideas, like fogging systems, all glass interiors, pool windows and vanishing spas, David is able to continually wow homeowners with breathtaking designs and creative solutions to their every day needs.


Ron Torbak - Designer

Before journeying into the world of pool design, Ron Torbak enjoyed an exciting career in high fashion, working in Paris with the legendary couture giant Chanel. But when his career path took a sharp turn into the pool industry, Ron took it head on without looking back. 34 years later he realizes how his skills that made him successful in his fashion career have served him well in pool design. In his first few years in the industry, Ron renovated over 40 pools, and has since averaged 30 – 40 new pool builds a year. He established his own company and grew it to a million dollar a year business before selling it in 2000. Ron’s designs have won numerous awards both on the regional and international level, and continue to garner local recognition as he shares his passion in pool design with homeowners throughout the greater Austin area.

With a keen perception of client need and an eye for functional beauty in design, Ron creates pools that meet the homeowner’s practical needs while reflecting their personal tastes and lifestyle. Customers appreciate his personal approach to the design process and are amazed at the time he spends getting to know them and their family, identifying their personal style and encouraging them to share their own vision for their backyard. The extra effort pays off when Ron delivers an exquisite design that is as unique and singular as the homeowners themselves.
