Roseville-based solar power company SUNworks has commissioned projects with a combined total of about 1 megawatt for Quaresma Dairy in Manteca and M&B Alfalfa Farms in Tracy.

SUNworks designs, installs and manages solar systems for agricultural, commercial and residential customers. It has delivered hundreds of 2.5 kilowatt to 1 megawatt commercial systems and has the capability to deliver systems as big as 25 megawatts.

Earlier this year, SUNworks became a wholly owned subsidiary of Solar3D Inc., a Santa Barbara-based developer of three-dimensional solar-cell technology designed to maximize the conversion of sunlight into electricity.

Officials estimated that the Quaresma and M&B solar systems will combine to save more than $3.4 million in energy costs over the next 25 years.

“This is just the beginning of some very large projects that our agricultural and commercial divisions are working on,” said Abe Emard, CEO of SUNworks. “As savvy farmers continue to seek ways to be more competitive, they are increasingly looking to solar as a viable way to decrease cost of operations, while insulating against rising electricity costs.”
