It was my understanding that this merger would be a non taxable event for the shareholders. TD Ameritrade is treating it as a taxable event as I am being clipped for my cap gains on PX, and my cost basis for LIN is what the trading price was on 10/31/18...why is this happening since it was basically a share for share stock swap?

If you own PX, you will receive one share of the new company for every share of PX you own, and then your PX shares will no longer have any value and will no longer trade. It is an exchange.....
