Used to listen to Art Bell quite a bit back in the day. "The Sounds from Hell" scared the crap out of me lol.

I remembered what they called the small creature in Peru. It is called "el duende". You can google that & find lots of similar stories about it. Here are a few of them that you will find very interesting:

It’s a spook that walks with the turned around feet emitting a frightful whine. It’s dedicated to annoy the families of the farmers until it drives them crazy and forces them to emigrate towards the cities.

The duende usually moves things of its place or hides them. It lives in caves, where it hides children to drive them crazy.

At night, the duende throws stones to the roofs of the houses, or chases girls that are old enough to have a boyfriend, is also does braids to horses and plays the guitar. In fact, one way of scaring him away is placing a guitar at midnight so that it doesn’t bother the family.

The legend also says that the duende is an angel expelled from heaven due to his envy towards God, and therefore was condemned to wander by the fields scaring people.

In my town some people told me that a long time ago there was a little man that looked like a boy because he was so short.
El Cipitillo is a very bad and dangerous boy because he likes to tease pretty girls. He is very ugly. He has his feet on backwards. He has a large hat and a large stomach.
He likes to throw little rocks in the girls' food. He likes to also follow them. When the girls don't like him, he treats them badly. He scares them and doesn't let them sleep at night.

I emailed my story about the Peruvian leprechaun to a site I found that was covering the gnome story & it they posted it on their site at http://terrorgnome.com/. The guy who made the website has been offered by Ripley's Believe it or Not a free trip to Argentina to investigate along with a few other guys. Pretty cool. I hope they can find something. Many people I talked to in Peru had seen something similar to this & I was surprised by how many people actually believed in it.

A TOWN in South America is living in fear after several sightings of a 'creepy gnome' that locals claim stalks the streets at night.

The midget - which wears a pointy hat and has a distinctive sideways walk - was caught on video last week by a terrified group of youngsters.

Teenager Jose Alvarez - who filmed the gnome - yesterday told national newspaper El Tribuno that they caught the creature while larking about in their hometown of General Guemes, in the province of Salta, Argentina.

He said: “We were chatting about our last fishing trip. It was one in the morning.

“I began to film a bit with my mobile phone while the others were chatting and joking.

"Suddenly we heard something - a weird noise as if someone was throwing stones.

"We looked to one side and saw that the grass was moving. To begin with we thought it was a dog but when we saw this gnome-like figure begin to emerge we were really afraid."

Jose added that other locals had come forward to say they had spotted the gnome.

He said: “This is no joke. We are still afraid to go out - just like everyone else in the neighbourhood now.

"One of my friends was so scared after seeing that thing that we had to take him to the hospital.”


I'm an American, but I did live in Lima Peru for a couple of years, & I did hear a lot of stories about leprechauns. One Peruvian friend there that I was close to swore up & down that he had seen one when he was a kid, around 5 or 6 years old. One of the kids in his class saw something in a tree near the window & shouted out to the rest of the class that there was a leprechaun outside. According to him, the whole class saw a short creature in the tree smiling at them & noticed them seeing him. Supposedly adults can't see them, and the teacher tried to find out what they were looking at but couldn't see anything, & thought that they were playing a joke on her so she made everyone sit down & stop looking out the window.

Now I don't believe in most of the South American superstitions, like drinking ice cold soda after exercise will make your lungs explode, or pointing a fan directly at yourself will give you "la gripe". But I did, just out of curiosity, ask other people if they believed in leprechauns, & I heard a lot of elaborate & interesting stories to say the least.

I can say that this video is much better proof then the last laugh everyone had at the leprechaun sighting from Mobile, Alabama.
