ADA-ES is an environmental technology and specialty chemical company that brings 25 years of experience to improve responsible profitability for electric power and industrial companies through proprietary products and systems that mitigate environmental impact while reducing operating costs. In September 2003, ADA-ES was spun off from its parent company Earth Sciences, Inc. (ESI) and began trading as a new publicly traded company. ADA-ES is traded on the NASDAQ Small Cap Market under the "ADES" ticker symbol. OUR HISTORY Established in 1996, ADA-ES, LLC (ADA-ES) commercialized a novel, cost-effective flue gas conditioning technology for industries using electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) and baghouses for particulate control. This innovative technology dramatically improved the ability of utilities and refineries to meet clean air standards without expensive modification or replacement of equipment. This technology was developed by ADA-ES with funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Electric Power Research Institute. In 1997, ADA-ES conducted several successful full-scale demonstrations of the flue gas conditioning technology and sold several permanent systems. During 1998, ADA-ES improved its first additive injection system and released a dramatically improved second-generation flue gas conditioning product. In September 2003, ADA-ES, LLC spun off from its parent company Earth Sciences, Inc. (ESI), to form ADA-ES, Inc., and began trading as a new publicly-traded company. ADA-ES' common stock, which had been trading on the OTC Bulletin Board since the Company spun-off from ESI, began trading on the NASDAQ Small Cap Market on October 14, 2004. The ticker symbol for ADA-ES' common stock will remain "ADES." ADA-ES TODAY Today, ADA-ES is at the forefront of mercury control for coal-fired boilers. ADA-ES has been involved in the development of activated carbon injection (ACI) to control mercury since the early 1990s. In 2000, the US DOE chose ADA-ES to conduct the first full-scale demonstrations of ACI on coal-fired power plants. Through this program ADA-ES demonstrated over 90% mercury control and developed the design for commercial ACI systems. ADA-ES now offers turnkey ACI systems and activated carbon sorbents to the electric utility industry. Since 2002, we have sold ACI systems for nineteen power plants with 10,000 MW of installed capacity. In addition to providing mercury control ACI systems and activated carbon, ADA-ES provides mercury measurement products and services. Through our Emissions Strategies division, ADA-ES applies its mercury measurement and control technology development experience to help utilities understand the mercury situations at their own power plants. The company helps utilities integrate their mercury control strategy with other multi-pollutant planning so that the most efficient and cost-effective solution is obtained. We offer our customers: a fast, cost effective method to measure mercury emissions and collection efficiency; analysis of mercury control options and strategies; and planning for their multi-pollutant emissions compliance. ADA-ES' mercury control experience has covered a wide range of issues, including: Managing early sorbent injection technology development projects for EPRI to control mercury using pilot-scale equipment Managing the nation’s largest full-scale mercury control demonstration project Providing guidance to EPA’s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards related to carbon injection-based mercury control systems for EPA’s Air Pollution Control Cost Manual Characterizing, measuring, and planning control strategies for utility systems Designing and installing mercury control systems using activated carbon In addition to our work in mercury, ADA-ES is actively marketing its third-generation flue gas conditioning system and is helping customers minimize the problems associated with switching to coal from the PRB. This work includes everything from coal selection to soot-blowing procedures to chemicals for improved ash handling and collection. ADA-ES has developed a solution for slag-tapping problems that enables cyclone boilers to fire PRB coals. This fluxing additive, ADA-249M, has been successfully demonstrated at a variety of full-scale plants and is in full time use at a number of sites.
