Voxx International (NASDAQ:VOXX) shoots higher after turning to a profit in FQ2.
"We had a strong second quarter, both in terms of sales and profitability and our outlook looks promising. Premium audio product sales are growing and should increase significantly with expanded distribution, our new alliance with Onkyo and Pioneer, and new products coming to market," says CEO Pat Lavelle.
Revenue was up 41.9%, led by a 50.7% jump in the consumer electronics segment.
Voxx ended the quarter with cash of $45.9M vs. $37.4M a year ago.
Shares of Voxx are up 18.29% in premarket action to $10.22. It is the first time in almost six years that Voxx has traded in double digits.

I was VOXXED 5.80.......that is I was foxed.

Ah well, it's definitely a cigar butt play worth a puff or two at these levels IMO. May take more patience thanI want to admit but we'll see. They have a lot of moving parts.

Ya I'm not as high on this one as Optex. Distributors are not being helped by rising fuel prices. VOXX is more than distribution of course, but it is still a chunk of their business.

Wish they would put a tourniquet on Eyelock and stop the hemorrhaging. That alone could add almost $15 mill a year operationally given the loans they have to keep handing out along with the share of costs.

It is definitely cheap though, getting closer to 1/2 tangible book with a chunk of cash on the balance sheet.

VOXX , ok put me down for some at 5.05, but see it answered with 4.90.

Bought back a few flip shares at $5.75 today. They should have a one time tax gain coming from the revaluation of their deferred tax liabs and it looked like some automotive numbers were generally decent for their EVO considering the models. Still tough to know how this all ends up with the old man chairman but figured I'd add a few around a core position I've held since Oct 2016.

Should have over $2/share in cash after Q4. Not much debt at all. Lots of valuable assets including nice properties that are owned. Just wish they'd buy back their own shares instead of try to go shopping all the time.

Solid report today, and before they did much out of their automotive OEM rampup with GM and F.

This has never been an earnings play investment for me but rather a cigar butt assets play. They have tons of assets (including nice properties), if they can ever figure out how to corral them into operational efficiency and long term cashflow.

Now if only someone could convince the old man to have a more aggressive share buyback plan in place instead of scheming up another project like the burdensome Eyelock... Maybe some day Eyelock will do something but it has been nothing but a cash burn as far as I've seen.

Kahn Brothers have upped their stake in VOXX. Check SEC filing Sept 25. They are over 16% and 3.6 mil shares now.

If John was smart, he'd quit the lip service about company being undervalued and would institute a share buyback with no fanfare and try to get shares out of circulation on the cheap if he actually thought the company could generate good cashflow and earnings with current business. If they could somehow get Eyelock in a position to be funded thru a partnership or something that would immediately help their cash flow and bottom line, Eyelock burns somewhere upwards of $15+ mill a year and that's pretty huge for a company with a market cap of roughly 10x that amount.

After the sale, I'm modeling them to have roughly $200+ mill in tangible assets with some ARs and inventory becoming cash (although hard to know how much AR and inventory are wrapped up in the deal so it's a guess).

If you give back the $15-$18 mill burn Eyelock puts on them, you'd be looking at a decently profitable company with cash on hand, no debt, trading under tangible book, valuable properties, with GMs in the mid-high 20s and having some manufacturing capability moving forward for expansion of some of their OEM automotive products.

There's always risk but seems like it's mitigated with the sale in Q2 probably being realized to pad the big hiccup from hhgregg bk and customer changing inventory algorithm in front half this year, and a clean balance sheet with strong Q3 coming after that and at front end of some decent OEM work (often higher margin early on in mutliyear contracts so could carry for 12 months or more with Ford and GM work potentially plus other programs post Hirschmann).

Plus we could have meaningful news on Eyelock and Qualcomm working together with the snapdragon 835 processor in the next month or so potentially.

Never listen to management as a foundation for investment thesis unless you are a share flip pumper. Look at the business, the history, what is holding things back, etc... the chairman here is a blowhard that gets to stay that way because he controls the company. He also has built a bigger and better business over time in terms of creating good jobs and hiring people. They've glided away from distribution to more vertical integration with US manufacturing of stuff like rear seat infotainment in Naples or Klipsch speakers in Indianapolis.

The real problem is this is a competitive business where obsolescence and reinventing products is constant and management constantly remains over optimistic and slippery when it comes to being up front with investors. The other problem is their overhead needs to be reigned in if John wants to see the public take their share value more seriously. They've taken a profitable mid teens GMs business roughly a decade ago and turned it into a mid-high twenties GMs biz that loses money.

These problems I think begin to become outweighed by the underlying business potential in near and mid term if they can avoid too much inventory hold on the balance sheet (something that came up in comments on CC that a major customer is putting inventory risk more on the company).

Right now peeps see a mngmnt team that is not forthcoming nor visibly looking at direct shareholder value enhancement so they're penalizing the company's value. I personally think once Q3 gets reported in January next year that people will see the engine light more clearly even without Hirschmann. Outta time, will try to type more eventually. Good luck.

However I know I am missing something.
One thing I like, as I did with my big loser BLIN was the way they spoke in the CC, I could follow all the dots in a very uncomplicated way, this is a strong attraction, and perhaps a pitfall?.
Not being clued into the scalable value of their new products, I get the way they are knocking off the debts which always frayed the bottom line, but do not see clear picture to value a reliable trigger for share price rise from here? We do not know what the cash protected by the NOL's will buy? Think right now hard to find underrvalued targets?
But I know I just am missing something.

Increased cash flow and growth in back half. Also, a chunk of their auto Wins are outside Hirschmann although Hirschmann was their higher margin biz and also a sizable portion of wins as well. They're also starting to vertically integrate better as a mnfctrr and distributor in US as time goes on vs mostly distributor history. People are looking at the last couple years as a norm operationally but I think are completely off because they're downsizing the very major impact the Euro deval had on their ops. They're doing several things better that r getting partially masked by Eyelock losses.

Give this a couple Qs and I think the light will be clearer. Last Q got whacked by hhgregg and distribution channel backup from a major retailer (kinda curious if that might be Walmart or Amzn). That's going to hurt Q2 a bit but this last Q should be the bottom. Thei risk is Eyelock though if they keep pouring $ into it as a pet project of John the chairman.

Time to buy VOXX around $7. Will take a bit of patience with Q2 weakness likely before recovery. The sale of Hirschmann cleans up the balance sheet nicely. HHgregg bk hurt this Q and the inventory held back will probably keep Q2 lackluster before improvement into seasonal stronger Q3 timeframe.

I am convinced that the AT niche which uses its data base for medical diagnosis is the only high priest
authority for cancer patients with challenging survival needs.
No single doctor can keep up with the 8K studies per day ( no typing error), and this
factor appears to have lead and made necessary the latest press of the button summary by the formidable AT entity and its retrievable data ( having feed into its system every cancer study)to be ahead of a genius doctor's up loads (to his brain) of possible treatments by 18-24 months. And so far, the AT picks up 30% ( as recently reported) more possible ingenuities for the challenged beleaguered cancer patient for which a consensus of a panel of top MD's would not at that time notice.
I gather that once critical mass is positioned like Watson, once IBM threw in 14 billion, the top AT firm takes all.
I know nothing about AT for driving, and probably will know more soon as have a friend entering the business as a discovery type, and personally curious what the smaller AT start ups are working on,
and what type of cash burn is needed at that level to generate profitable revenues.

A lot of that attrition was related to the Euro-US dollar slump that happened along with winding down of some product cycles in auto and also commoditization of some consumer accessory lines they moved away from. I saw things start to change last year as they leaned down a bit and they started broadcasting substantial new auto wins. Be more like seeking alpha and less like ihub in beginning research ;).

I look backwards a little but spend a majority of time looking forward. AT is one I'm starting to glance at but other than a nice short term pop to operations, they have their work cut out for them with much of their PPA biz contracts in limbo. They are heavily priced under their asset's real value I believe but have a whole lot of complicating circumstances they're trying to juggle thru. Solid mngmnt team there.

Probably a buy now. $165 mill sale (at euro 1.12 so by end of august close might be more or less) is going to ramp up their balance sheet although chunks of their debt are at low interest rates. Rest of company is probably going to struggle without the ramp up in auto that was coming. That being said, the parts left are worth way more as long as HQ doesn't go AWOL on Eyelock or squander things (possible with their track record but still a lot of potential value and who knows maybe Eyelock works out longer term).

They may have a rough couple Qs ahead so might be a chance to buy on a disappointing earnings report.

VOXX still looks relatively cheap once they make this sale but I'll want to know which way the captain wants to steer the ship in Q1 CC. I'm expecting a weakish Q1.

Have you looked at AT before? Very competitive IPP market but their cash flows and assets make it look relatively attractive right now. Going to be a long term deal though unless they get a pop on next Q's #s which should be decent with a settlement. The mid term negatives seem priced in at these levels although there are a ton of variables. Management is good and open.

From a pure asset stance probably but Hirschmann was the unit I held with highest regard in terms of future growth. Klipsch they payed more for and I would think could also be worth a nice chunk of change but I would want to know their plans with this $ before saying it looks cheap here. I was mostly buying in the mid $2s to low $3s so it feels less compelling to talk about buying and even sold a little last week ahead of this news.

Still not finding much value these days ubfortunately so haven't spent much time truffling around.

Yes I have traded less than in decades recently.

Thought I had dropped a hint on this to U last year. Maybe not.

At these levels I'd wait. I think fiscal Q4 won't be anything spectacular and Q1 may not be much either. After that though I think this becomes more compelling. There could be events to drive it in the meantime but going off known knowns I'd expect a lil consolidation unless they surprise me in the May report (as mentioned, I'm not expecting any major Q4 surprise).

I've lightly sold a few lately and have less than half the original position but luckily it has trended nicely higher.

Still fat in cash and no sparks that interest me too terribly much in this semi-bloated market.

Nice, this has been my largest holding since early October last year so I've trimmed back to less than half original position but it's still my largest holding as far as individual securities in front of SMith Midland.

Looks like the Galaxy S8 launch is strong although VOXX only has a small toehold with their embedded Eyelock tech on the Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm.

Snapdragon chip should be the one to be incorporated into S8.
