I'm sorry but while Reynolds may be a cash generation machine and while I used to own PM via gifted shares, I cant and won't support any company that kills people with their product. I just have a problem profiting from a company that markets product that causes ultimately, terrible death of their customers. Sorry.

They will go back and reduce that amount, court cases have already said you can't give an unreasonable amount in damages. (More than about 9times the actual damages)

But yeah still ouch, wonder what the stock price will do, maybe time to buy more if it falls significantly.

I got lots of PM from my grandpa but like this to. Those Chinese and Japanese love to smoke a lot. Everybody knows its bad to smoke but they keep smoking more and more. That equals $$$$$. That's how they can pay you so much to hold the stock and it really starts to add up every year when they pay you more and more money. The books look good here to.

I looking into long term growth within the smokeless tobacco industry.

Reynolds American and other tobacco companies are also focusing on cigarette alternatives such as snuff, and chewing tobacco and snus small pouches filled with tobacco that users stick between the cheek and gum for future sales growth as tax hikes, smoking bans, health concerns and social stigma make the cigarette business tougher.

It sold fewer cigarettes, but was able to command higher prices and benefited from its smokeless tobacco products.

Reynolds American Inc.'s second-quarter profit fell almost 11 percent, chiefly on charges related to a legal case, the nation's second-biggest tobacco company said Friday.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., April 3, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals today reversed a lower court's ruling in a 'lights' class-action suit brought against cigarette makers, decertifying the nationwide class in Schwab.

In its ruling, the court stated: 'Because individual issues outweigh issues susceptible to common proof, the class is not maintainable ... '

'We are certainly pleased with the court's ruling and agree with its reasoning,' said Martin L. Holton III - general counsel for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco. 'Numerous courts across the country have held that claims such as these simply cannot be tried as class actions.'
