VIASPACE Chairman Highlights Second Year Progress and Discusses Pathway to Continued Corporate Growth, Profitability and Increasing Shareholder Value
http://www.otcmarkets.com/stock/VSPC/news

WALNUT, Calif., Oct. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTC: VSPC) today reported that Dr. Kevin Schewe, has highlighted his second year as Chairman of the Board and reviewed the major accomplishments of VIASPACE during the last twelve months. He discusses the direction of the company and the pathway to continued corporate growth, profitability and increasing shareholder value.

Dr. Schewe started, "Two years ago, on October 2, 2012, I became Chairman of the VIASPACE Board of Directors. In our press release that day, I said, 'Our shareholders will see a "new company" focused on providing tangible results and timely information. We want to attract new shareholders from around the world and reward our many long-term loyal shareholders with a company keen on growth and increasing shareholder value. Our shareholders will not have to wait long to see a difference in the direction of this company'. Since that time, we have kept our investor audience and shareholders regularly informed with timely press releases and social media outreach through our website and Facebook page. We have stayed keen on growth and Giant King Grass (GKG) is being grown in California, Hawaii, St. Croix U.S. Virgin Islands, Nicaragua, South Africa, China, Myanmar, Pakistan, Guyana, Jamaica and the Philippines. We have more new geographic sites growing Giant King Grass to announce in the near future. Developing and signing new contracts with customers, obtaining phytosanitary certificates and the required import/export approvals, harvesting and properly shipping the Giant King Grass seedlings, starting a propagation nursery to expand to a GKG plantation for biofuel feedstock and/or animal feed all takes due time, labor, effort and financing to accomplish. All of these things are a prerequisite to increasing shareholder value and we have stayed keenly focused on our plans in this regard.

"Two years ago, VIASPACE entered into a Giant King Grass license agreement with its sister company, VIASPACE Green Energy (VGE). VIASPACE was required to meet the following conditions in the first 24 months after the license agreement was entered into: Condition 1 required at least $200,000 in revenues during the first 24 months and Condition 2 required two or more third-party locations growing at least 10 hectares of Giant King Grass in the first 24 months. In addition, we had a contractual fulfillment to pay legal fees to VGE related to separating the two companies and establishing the license agreement. I am happy to report that VIASPACE has achieved all of these license milestones. The demand for the commercialization of Giant King Grass is accelerating and is now very active and significant in Asia. We are working hard to build the brand name of Giant King Grass in Asia and elsewhere globally as well. VIASPACE has requested that its sister company, VIASPACE Green Energy, assist in the commercialization of Giant King Grass in Asia."

Mr. Sung Chang, President of VIASPACE Green Energy, commented, "I am very pleased with the progress that VIASPACE has made to develop and expand the commercialization of Giant King Grass on a global basis over the past two years. I look forward to us continuing to work together to build and expand the brand name of Giant King Grass and its commercialization as the world's highest yielding biomass platform. There is demand for Giant King Grass, so we are happy to assist VIASPACE in Asia and any other markets."

Dr. Schewe continued, "During this past year, VIASPACE has gone to great lengths to establish that Giant King Grass is an excellent commercial source of animal feed with test results conducted and confirmed by Dairy One in Ithaca, New York, one of the world's premier forage testing laboratories. Giant King Grass is also now being grown and tested in a research collaboration with the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources Division (UCANR). Giant King Grass behaves like other forage crops in that younger shorter cuttings are more tender with higher protein and lower fiber whereas slightly older cuttings produce more dry matter lower in protein but higher in fiber. Animals need both protein and fiber and both types of animal feed are needed in the marketplace. The data shows that Giant King Grass has nutritional value nearly as good as alfalfa when cut short and better than oat or sorghum hay when it is cut taller. Giant King Grass can be harvested 4-5 times per year for animal feed, has extremely high yield and is perennial (does not have to be replanted each year). This means lower cost of production and higher profits for the grower. The current demand for animal feed represents a sales equivalent of U.S. $300 billion worldwide and is expected to steadily double between now and 2050. VIASPACE has significant animal feed projects which should begin to come to fruition in 2015 in Nicaragua and Pakistan.

"Our flagship bioenergy project is the 12MW Giant King Grass fueled power plant in Nicaragua to be co-located with a 2,100 acre Giant King Grass plantation adjacent to the Miramontes rice plantation located on and irrigated from Lake Nicaragua. Giant King Grass has been growing well there since 2012. We have formed a special purpose company named 'Energia Reino Verde' (in English, "Green Kingdom Energy") to own and operate the GKG plantation and 12MW power plant there. The project will generate 84,000,000 kWh of saleable electricity which will be transmitted on the national grid and sold to both the grid and private customers. As co-developer, VIASPACE both supplies GKG and is a partner in the sale of electricity. The formal feasibility study is nearing completion and VIASPACE's strategic goal is to assemble an engineering, construction and financing team that we can work with on this project and many others as a result of this ground-breaking project. We are spending significant time and resources to insure the success of this project and believe that it will launch our company to new heights based on revenue projections and other brand new projects that we expect it to spawn.

"VIASPACE partner Tibbar Energy USVI on the island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands is expecting construction to begin in early 2015 for the Giant King Grass fueled, 7-megawatt biogas power plant. This project will be the Caribbean's first carbon neutral base load, renewable power plant. VIASPACE will receive license revenues for 25 years (with a five year option) as the Giant King Grass on St. Croix is harvested for renewable electricity. We also anticipate that this project will serve as model for the Caribbean island region. We have Giant King Grass growing very successfully in Pakistan under the direction of VIAPACE Director, Mr. Khurram Irshad. The projects in Pakistan are both for animal feed and bioenergy applications and the specifics of these projects will be disclosed in 2015 when the customers are prepared to release the information. We are very proud of the work that Mr. Irshad is doing in Pakistan and look forward to the book of business that he is creating there.

"We are continuing to advance our South Africa Giant King Grass gold mining remediation project with Harmony Gold Mining Company and Selectra which uniquely combines renewable GKG with bioenergy production and land rehabilitation. We recently announced Giant King Grass growing in Guyana to create a plantation for pellet production and GKG growing in the Philippines with Sagay Central to extend their local power plant operation to sell electricity to the grid. We also just announced Giant King Grass growing at Hawaii Agriculture Research Center on Oahu and we are actively pursuing bioenergy and animal feed projects with companies in Hawaii. All of these endeavors are positioned to generate license revenues for VIASPACE in 2015 and 2016.

"Prior to becoming the VIASPACE Board Chairman in October 2012, I purchased 100,000,000 VIASPACE (VSPC) common shares on the open market. Since October of 2012 and as of September 25, 2014, I have invested an additional $525,000 in VIASPACE in the form of senior convertible loans. Every month when I have made these loans to VIASPACE, I have immediately converted the loans to VSPC common shares for two reasons. First, I have purposely kept additional debt off our books, and second, I believe that I am making a good investment. I now am the second largest shareholder in the company and preferentially hold more than 175,000,000 VSPC common shares which is more than 10% of outstanding shares. My plan is to continue to support the company and to continue to build my holdings of common shares. We run a very tight ship at VIASPACE and when our license and power plant ownership revenues begin to materialize; our profit margin will speak for itself. I view the value of my common shares as would any common shareholder and want these shares to appreciate in value. I personally show my solid belief in this Company every single month with my investments and immediate conversions to common shares. We at VIASPACE are working hard every day to create value for our shareholders and attract the interest of the investment community."

Oct 21, 2014 VIASPACE Announces Giant King(TM) Grass Growing at Hawaii Agriculture Research Center on Oahu (Part 2)
http://www.otcmarkets.com/stock/VSPC/news

WALNUT, Calif., Oct. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTC: VSPC) today reported that Giant King Grass previously released from quarantine in Hawaii is successfully growing at the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center (HARC) on Oahu. HARC, which originally began in 1882 as a trade organization of the sugarcane industry, today has the mission to support a viable agricultural sector in Hawaii by researching and applying relevant science and technology to achieve practical solutions and by identifying new agricultural opportunities.

The US Department of Agriculture previously approved VIASPACE's proprietary Giant KingTM Grass for distribution throughout the United States, and has approved it for export to many countries. However, Hawaii has additional strict regulations for importation of plants. Hawaii required that Giant King Grass be grown and monitored in their quarantine facility for 12 months. The quarantine period was completed and Giant King Grass was cleared by officials in Hawaii and released. All Giant King Grass in Hawaii must be propagated from the plants that were released from quarantine.

HARC agronomist, Ms. Jamie Barton, is project leader for advanced biofuel research. She stated, "We moved the Giant King Grass from the quarantine facility into our greenhouse. We performed an initial propagation from the quarantine plants in our greenhouse. Then we transplanted into the ground in our experiment station. The Giant King Grass is growing very well and is now more than 15 feet tall."

Ms. Stephanie Whelan, Executive Director of the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center, reported, "HARC is actively pursuing opportunities that can help revitalize agriculture on Hawaii. This can be for bioenergy or for animal feed. Giant King Grass addresses both problems and is welcome at our facility."

VIASPACE CEO, Dr. Carl Kukkonen, commented, "The Giant King Grass at HARC will serve as a propagation nursery to supply Giant King Grass to customers in Hawaii, just as our California nursery serves the continental US and the rest of the world. It will also allow us to do experiments in the unique Hawaiian island climate. VIASPACE is in discussions with companies in Hawaii that are pursuing bioenergy, biofuels and animal feed. We have invested a lot of time and energy in getting Giant King Grass cleared for Hawaii. VIASPACE has demonstrated that our proprietary, high yield Giant King Grass can meet the most stringent agriculture standards in the world, and this should give great confidence to potential new customers."

VIASPACE Board Chairman, Dr. Kevin Schewe, concluded, "We are extremely pleased with our relationship with the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center and the care and skill that they have shown in cultivating and propagating our Giant King Grass released from Hawaii's strict quarantine process earlier this year. We now have a reputable and defined site of propagating Giant King Grass on the island of Oahu that will serve us well as we expand into the Hawaiian bioenergy and animal feed market. I encourage our interested investors and clients to view the pictures of our 15 foot tall Giant King Grass growing at HARC on our Facebook page. Hawaii is a very important market for us and it has required a diligent step-by-step process to get to this point of having Giant King Grass available to commercialize there. Our next step is to proceed to commercialization and work to revitalize Hawaii's commercial agriculture, biomass, bioenergy and animal feed business sectors."

Sagay Central to Extend Power Plant Operation and Sell Electricity to the Grid

WALNUT, Calif., Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTC: VSPC) today reported that Giant King Grass was shipped to and planted by its partner, Sagay Central, Inc., in Negros Occidental, Philippines. Sagay Central is a sugar milling and sugar growing company in the center of the Philippines sugar industry. It crushes 4,000 metric tons of sugar cane every day and produces 150,000 tons of sugar per year. Sagay Central was founded in 1968 and its products include raw sugar, washed sugar and specialty Muscavado sugar for the domestic market and export.

The Giant King Grass was harvested from the VIASPACE nursery in Southern California. It was inspected by the US Department of Agriculture to meet the conditions of the SPS Import Clearance of the Philippines Department of Agriculture. The US Department of Agriculture found the Giant King Grass to be free of pests and disease, and issued the required phytosanitary certificate. The Giant King Grass planting material was sent by airfreight to Manila where it cleared customs, and then was forwarded by ferry to Negros.

VIASPACE CEO, Dr. Carl Kukkonen, traveled to the Philippines to meet with officials from Sagay Central and to personally oversee the planting of the Giant King Grass.

Sugarcane is crushed or pressed in a series of mills to remove the juice which is then processed into crystalline sugar and molasses. The remaining chopped fibrous sugarcane, called bagasse, is burned in a boiler that produces heat for the sugar making processes and electricity to power the sugar mill. The sugar season at Sagay Central is nine months per year. Other mills only operate six months per year.

Mr. Romie Cortez, President of Sagay Central, Inc. said: "We signed a contract with VIASPACE in 2013. We are happy after some delays to get this important biomass renewable energy project underway. Sagay has a nine-month sugarcane crushing season. We crush about 400 truckloads of sugar cane every day, but we only operate nine months a year. With Giant King Grass, we plan to be able to operate our proposed power plant 12 months per year and provide the excess electricity to the national grid. We also plan to sell Giant King Grass to other sugar mills to do the same. This will expand and diversify our operations and lead to increased profitability. We plan to use our existing sugar mill to press out the juice from the Giant King Grass and create "Giant King Grass bagasse" which we will burn in our boiler."

Resident Manager, Primitvo Rivera, reported: "Sagay Central has to continually innovate in order to be competitive in this market. We have to do more than just produce raw sugar. There is land near Sagay that is not suitable for sugarcane, and we now plan to grow Giant King Grass on that land. The Philippines needs more electricity, and we believe we can help with this. We presented our plans for Giant King Grass at the Philippines Sugar Technologist Association, Inc. national convention in 2013 and won an award for the best technical paper. The Sagay agronomist is working with Dr. Kukkonen to make sure that the Giant King Grass is planted and grown properly. Initially, we will use Giant King Grass to produce electricity locally, and we have ideas for export as well."

"I was very impressed with Sagay", reported Dr. Kukkonen. "They are a very professional operation. VIASPACE will work hard to make them successful. I want to thank Sagay for all their hospitality. I learned many things about operations that are applicable to our other projects around the world."

VIASPACE Chairman, Dr. Kevin Schewe, commented: "We have been working with Sagay Central since 2013 and we have now seen our joint efforts come to fruition. This relationship is not a "test plot" but is an expansion of business for Sagay to extend their power plant operation to a full 12 months per year and sell excess electricity to the national grid. We know that Giant King Grass will grow well in proximity to sugar cane and Sagay has nearly 46 years of experience in this regard. They also plan to use adjacent lands that are not entirely suitable for sugar cane to broaden their scope of using Giant King Grass for commercial purposes and to increase their overall profitability. VIASPACE will receive long-term license revenues from Sagay's commercial harvesting of Giant King Grass and we are thoroughly pleased to be working with such a solid company in the Philippines."

Oct 9, 2014 VIASPACE and Tibbar Energy USVI Report Progress for 7-Megawatt Biomass Power Plant on St. Croix
http://www.otcmarkets.com/stock/VSPC/news

WALNUT, Calif., Oct. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTC: VSPC) today issued an update regarding the progress of the Tibbar Energy USVI, Giant King Grass fueled, 7-megawatt biogas power plant on the island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. The power plant will provide the only base load renewable electricity in the USVI. The majority feedstock is from VIASPACE Giant King Grass (GKG). Tibbar will sell power for 25 years with a 5 year option to the Water and Power Authority (WAPA). Tania Tomyn, CEO of Tibbar, said, "Our project is a balance of public and private relationships. This is a long term commercial solution that gives the USVI fossil fuel independence and low cost power. Executive Director Hugo Hodge from WAPA and Karl Knight from the DOE in the USVI are finding real solutions such as LPG conversion and Solar to aid the energy crisis and Tibbar is proud to be part of that long term plan."

As previously reported, Tibbar Energy was issued a Virgin Island Department on Planning and Natural Resources' Division of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) final permit for construction on April 2, 2014. Those permits are now 90% complete and the final design and modification before construction starts is also being completed. Tomyn said, "We expect to start work the first of the year (2015) and that will create 150 jobs between the power plant construction and the farm development that will happen simultaneously. After construction, the plant will employ around 35-40 staff for 25 years." Tibbar has already been operating farms on the island of St. Croix growing GKG for over 2 years now with great success.

Additionally, on June 23, 2014, the Public Services Commission (PSC) held a public meeting on St. Thomas where Tibbar Energy and WAPA together requested final approval of the agreements between WAPA and Tibbar including the 25 year (with 5 year option) Power Purchase Agreement executed last July and the Interconnection Agreement to the power grid. That approval was granted by the Commission.

Tibbar's public and private relationships are important. For example, as part of the agreement the Department of Agriculture will receive 1,000 round bales per year for all three islands in the USVI for small livestock farmers. Tibbar will provide free fertilizer to small farmers on the island of St. Croix. Tibbar is working with VI Waste Management Authority on its existing long term agreement to recycle food waste and fats, oils and greases to divert waste from the landfill and be used in the digester to create energy. Tomyn said, "20% plus of all MSW is organics and working with Waste Management Authority to recycle these streams and divert them from landfills on St. Thomas and St. Croix is the right thing to do for both the USVI and Tibbar. This will have a major impact on landfill capacity over the next 25 years."

VIASPACE Chairman, Dr. Kevin Schewe, commented, "The project with Tibbar Energy to use Giant King Grass as a dedicated, renewable, green energy crop for biogas electricity production on St. Croix is continuing to move ahead. This represents a model, Caribbean renewable energy project that creates significant local jobs, provides green, base load electricity and multiple related benefits to waste management, the island environment and local farmers. Tibbar's project will be the Caribbean's first carbon neutral base load, renewable power plant. We are very pleased with our ongoing working relationship and partnership with Tibbar Energy. We are in regular contact with Tibbar CEO Tania Tomyn and her team. They have become experts at cultivating and growing Giant King Grass on St. Croix. VIASPACE will receive license revenues for 25 years (with a 5 year option) as the Giant King Grass on St. Croix is harvested for renewable electricity."

Sep 22, 2014 VIASPACE Announces Giant King Grass Developments and Progress in Hawaii (Part 1)
http://www.otcmarkets.com/stock/VSPC/news
WALNUT, Calif., September 22, 2014 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTC: VSPC) today reported that CEO, Dr. Carl Kukkonen, met with potential Giant King Grass customers in Hawaii. Dr. Kukkonen also attended the Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit held in Honolulu September 15-17, where he gave an invited presentation at a special conference track on Agricultural Innovation.

On March 17, 2014, VIASPACE announced that Giant King Grass was released from the mandatory one-year quarantine on Hawaii after the Hawaii Department of Agriculture found it to be free of pests and disease. Giant King Grass is currently growing well in Hawaii, and an update will be provided in a future press release (Part II).

Potential customers included Hawaiian businessmen working to revive agriculture on Hawaii, and also to produce clean energy. Hawaii once had a thriving cattle business. At this time, cattle born in Hawaii are mostly shipped to the mainland for growth and finishing. Pig farming is also important on Hawaii, but much of the big food needs to be imported from the mainland. There were once 12 sugar mills in Hawaii. Now there is one sugar plantation and mill located on Maui, and substantial plantation lands lie fallow. Most of the pineapple business has left Hawaii. There is significant underemployment in the agriculture industry.

Dr. Kukkonen reported, "There are business people in Hawaii now working to revive the cattle and dairy industries. Today most cattle are put out to pasture on large ranches which have local grasses such as Guinea grass. The land can support about 50 cattle per 100 acres. Giant King Grass with 10 - 15% protein is higher quality than Guinea grass that has about 5% protein. Giant King Grass also has much higher yield. With proper agriculture, Giant King Grass can support about 400 cattle or dairy cows per 100 acres. Giant King Grass can also be an important part of the diet for sheep, goats, horses and pigs. I believe that Giant King Grass can play an important role in animal feed in Hawaii and other tropical and subtropical regions."

Hawaii has the highest electricity prices in the US. Much of the electricity in Hawaii is produced from oil which is imported and expensive. Wind and solar electricity are intermittently available and Hawaii has difficulty in providing the backup power which is needed to provide consistent levels of electricity. Currently each Hawaiian island has its own separate grid and there is no undersea power line to make a statewide grid.

Kukkonen continued, "I heard a presentation on an ambitious concept to pump water uphill to a dam during times when there is excess solar or wind electricity. The plan is to then let the water run downhill and produce hydroelectricity when the wind is not blowing or during the nighttime. This is certainly possible, but growing Giant King Grass to fuel a reliable and 24/7 biomass power plant is a simpler and lower cost solution. Pumping water uphill to a dam is the only way to store electricity today on a large scale. It may be feasible in very special areas, but Giant King Grass clean renewable electricity should have much broader applicability. There was also a detailed concept to bring in containers of liquefied natural gas to the big island of Hawaii to replace oil for producing reliable electricity. This is feasible and would be a bit less expensive than oil and natural gas produces less carbon dioxide than oil. Both of these examples illustrate how difficult and expensive it is to produce electricity on island nations."

"I met with parties that are trying to develop biomass power plants using anaerobic digestion to produce clean bio electricity. They were interested in Giant King Grass as a dedicated energy crop. VIASPACE has just finished another round of extensive testing of Giant King Grass for anaerobic digestion and it is an excellent feedstock to produce biogas. We have action items to provide data to these potential customers."

Kukkonen also met with potential customers from other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. There are opportunities for Giant King Grass on islands like Guam.

VIASPACE Chairman, Dr. Kevin Schewe, concluded, "We have been very busy in Hawaii since our Giant King Grass was successfully released from quarantine there earlier this year. Giant King Grass is now growing incredibly well in Hawaii and we will be specifically discussing this progress soon. There is a picture of our Hawaiian Giant King Grass standing at our booth at the Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit and posted on our VIASPACE Facebook page. It takes time to develop a brand new plant/biomass platform and animal feed source in Hawaii, but we have now passed the major hurdles there and are ready for primetime. We have the most perfect solution for renewable biomass energy and animal feed for Hawaii and we are pursuing our business opportunities there."

The presentation titled: "Giant King Grass: Dual Use Crop-- Animal Feed and Bioenergy" is available on the VIASPACE website www.VIASPACE.com. Pictures from the Asia-Pacific Clean Energy Summit are available on the VIASPACE Facebook page www.facebook.com/viaspaceinc.
