He participated in numerous onshore and offshore, well service, testing and production operations, in the North Sea, Middle East, Far East and North Africa, including DST (drill stem testing), Sand Fracture and Acid Stimulation programs. He also spent two years commissioning a production platform for Amoco in the Rijn Oil Field, Dutch Southern North Sea Sector. This involved the implementation and supervision of complex gas and water injection systems, formation stimulation and flow-assurance programs.
In the early 90's, Mr. Western founded Completion and Production Services, Ltd., to lead exploration projects for Maersk Oil and Gas, with Schlumberger in Esbjerg, Denmark. He has performed testing, maintenance, and flow-assurance programs on some of the largest oil and gas fields in the world.
In 1995 due to an uncertain economic outlook within the industry Mr. Western relocated to the United States and pursued an alternative career path in the energy sector. During 1997, Mr. Western became President of a Las Vegas based LED lighting firm, and successfully negotiated a $39 million, five year contract with Illinova Energy Partners, a subsidiary of the $5.7 billion utility giant, Illinova. During February of 1998, Mr. Western formed an LED spin-off venture named UNERGI, Inc., and by August 1999, had negotiated a merger with public company, New Millennium Media International, and retired from the firm.
