ROCHESTER, NY, Aug 20, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- ImageXpres Corporation (PINKSHEETS: IMJX) today announced further details about its "digital" surgical safety checklist system, designed to re-enforce and document improved surgical safety protocols resulting from hospital use of surgical safety checklist boards now being sold to hospitals in the U.S.
ImageXpres is working closely with a number of medical surgical supply organizations in order to reach thousands of hospitals in a timely manner.
John Zankowski, ImageXpres President and CEO, states, "The ImageXpres Surg-i-Scan(TM) Safety Checklist System, and accompanying checklist boards, signals the beginning of a new systems platform for digital interactive medical systems from ImageXpres. This is the first of several new software/hardware systems we have been developing for the past year, and one that should prove to be very beneficial to the medical surgical marketplace."
The analog, custom-designed Surg-i-Scan(TM) Safety Checklist boards are currently available for sale by ImageXpress. The ImageXpres Surg-i-Scan(TM) Safety Checklist digital system will be fully tested in hospital market trials before being generally available by fourth quarter.
The company will be announcing sales and distribution partnerships with companies already selling medical products to hospitals and operating rooms, which are looking for new products to distribute, in the U.S. and internationally.
Mr. Zankowski concludes, "This particular product is one that clearly can benefit every hospital and surgical suite no matter where they are located. The WHO study has documented the benefits to hospitals and patients, in terms of lowered deaths and lowered surgical procedural errors, thus saving lives and improving healthcare delivery. We are pleased to be a part of the WHO initiative, and we are working diligently to reach the thousands of hospitals and out-patient surgery centers who need our product."
"The Surg-i-Scan(TM) system incorporates several unique features, providing a comprehensive documenting of each surgical procedure performed at the hospital. We believe the benefits for the patient are the driving force for adoption of the checklist system by surgeons and hospitals. In addition, documentation of correct procedures by the operating team will lead to fewer lawsuits and lowered insurance premiums for doctors and medical centers, resulting in lower delivery costs and improved patient care."
Background and Overview
The use of pre-flight checklists is a key element of airline safety when combined with the other approaches of Crew Resource Management (CRM). These approaches have contributed to making commercial aviation the safest form of transportation today.
In aviation, checklists have become an essential part of monitoring activities during complex procedures. They facilitate the routine systematizing of multi-step processes, improve team dynamics and minimize error.
Checklists provide a backup to human memory during routine and emergency procedures. They serve as a formal reminder, help prevent errors of omission and contribute to a safer environment.
Adaptation Of Checklists To Medicine (by W.H.O)
The success of Sefety Checklists in commercial aviation has caught the attention of other high-risk industries, particularly healthcare. The result is a W.H.O. endorsed surgical checklist that is being used by a great number of hospitals in the U.S. and worldwide, resulting in dramatic reduction of death risks & complications.
Our Unique Design (Sliderboards)
ImageXpres’ unique checklist design is a direct result of input from healthcare professionals and practitioners. This design consists of a Plexiglas board with a panel of sliders and a protective vinyl coating on the back. The slider panel corresponds to a customized process list. Each slider must be physically moved from red to green to complete the checklist and must be verified by two team members. In addition, there is a section on the board for additional notes. The board comes ready to mount on a flat wall or door.
Customized To Your Needs
Customization is available by specific location and/or by application. ImageXpres works closely with the end user to assure that the content addresses site-specific needs to help mitigate preventable errors. To order: call us at 585.292.5177 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
