Founded in 1994 by the Addax & Oryx Group, Addax Petroleum is an international oil and gas exploration and production company focused on Africa and the Middle East. Addax Petroleum has rapidly grown to become one of the largest independent oil producers in West Africa, one of the most prolific oil and gas regions in the world. Addax Petroleum has grown by acquiring under-developed properties in established basins and has increased its production by utilizing advanced and proven technologies. Addax Petroleum believes that its demonstrated operational and technical expertise, combined with its excellent reputation and strong community relationships throughout Africa and the Middle East, make it well positioned to continue to grow its reserves and production. Addax Petroleum has a high quality asset base consisting of a number of producing properties in Nigeria and Gabon, and exploration and development properties and new venture opportunities in West Africa and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Addax Petroleum employs a staff of 460 as of December 31, 2006, of whom 293 were in Nigeria. Additional information relating to Addax Petroleum is available through the internet on the Canadian System for Electronic Document Analysis and Retrieval (SEDAR) which can be accessed at www.sedar.com. About our name Addax Petroleum was named after a typically African antelope that can be found in saharian and sub-saharian Africa. The addax is a large bodied antelope with white to sandy coloration and long, thin, spiral horns that slant back and upward. The addax is particularly known for its ability to survive in harsh environments and is considered the most-well adapted antelope to a desert as it is able to get most of the water it needs from the plants it finds locally. The addax antelope was not only an emotional choice in the process of choosing a name but also seen as a perfect symbol to embody the spirit of Addax Petroleum's founders and the burgeoning culture of the company. It brought us closer to the continent where we started our operations and it still asserts our deep and continuous attachement to the African continent. It also reflects our philosophy and belief in the capacity of the company to adapt and prosper in areas deemed to offer little by transforming local resources into strong aces for growth.
